For us sustainability is more than a value, more than a goal and more than a vision. Sustainability is part of the company DNA since 1922 and is a fundamental element of every action, investment and relation. It’s no accident that it is one of the pillars of the NExT plan for the sustainable growth of the Group.
Sustainability is not limited to protecting the natural resources through a constant improvement of the environmental impact of the production and service activities, but it is a true development strategy focused on a greater sustainability of the companies and customers and the promotion of circular economic and industrial models.

The sustainability journey of the Sapio Group follows the United Nations 2030 Agenda. Signed by 150 countries in 2015 the Agenda sets out 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG). The Agenda includes in an integrated way all social, environmental and economic aspects necessary for a sustainable growth for future generations. The Sapio Group has already embarked on the road marked out by the Agenda and drawn up its sustainability plan in three macro areas: CARE, PROTECT and DEVELOP.
SEE THE GOALSIn 2020 the Group began measuring turnover in terms of alignment with the SDGs:
in 2020 66% of the activities have been in line with one of the goals of the United Nations. The aim is to constantly increase this percentage, which is an ambitious goal that requires the commitment of all company resources.
Guaranteeing the safety of our employees is the true and paramount goal of our safety philosophy. The safety program is one of the strategic keys to improve operating efficiency and reduce the hidden costs linked to work hours lost due to injury.
Our attention to safety is also aimed at creating an environment where every employee, supplier and contract staff can establish a relationship of trust with the Group and to stimulate the adoption of healthy and positive behaviours for the wellbeing of all. This attention to people results in a greater quality of the products and services that we distribute.
The main aspects of the safety management system are information, continuous education and training of employees.
If the absolute priority is the wellbeing of its employees the Group extends the safety management philosophy to the customers and patients. It is our firm belief that their central role in our focus cannot be guaranteed by simply following operational requirements. Their health and safety must be safeguarded as well. All the products and services supplied by the Group’s companies must comply with strict quality and efficiency standards.
The satisfaction of the customers and patients is a priority for the Sapio Group. It is constantly monitored through key performance indicators (KPI) in order to guarantee the quality of the services.
In the industrial market customer satisfaction has been monitored constantly since 2015. We check the quality of the service offered and identify the areas of intervention, with the perspective of continuous improvement of the customer experience. The Net Promoter System (NPS) is used for monitoring.
In the health sector the guidelines for managing the service provided to customers and patients are defined with the selfsame customers when the contract is drawn up and when the individual service is activated and are therefore specific for each customer and patient. The service is therefore set up and guided by safety logics for the patients and to ensure the continuity and compliance of the therapy to the medical prescriptions.”
In both the industrial and health sector Sapio places innovation at the centre of its offer of products and services, with the aim of improving the productivity of our customers and the quality of life of our patients.
The Sapio Group acknowledges that the protection of people, especially patients and their personal data, is a fundamental right.
The Group’s activities are strictly linked with the community in which we operate. Supporting the social fabric is an added value to improving the environment and the quality of life of the territory for both the company and for the people that live there.
We acknowledge a moral obligation towards the whole community that we come into contact with through our services, products and activities. This obligation consists of ensuring that the economic growth of the Group is sustainable and compatible with the planet that supports us. This commitment consists of an effort to preserve the use of natural resources, mitigate our ecological footprint, implement alternative technological solutions and help customers and patients to follow the same direction.
The Sapio Group is playing a leading role in the energy transition with a considerable focus on renewable gases, hydrogen and biomethane and on the carbon capture process.
Hydrogen is the sustainable energy vector that can meet the challenges of the future by contributing to the decarbonisation of hard to abate sectors that are heavily dependent on fossil fuels.
Biomethane on the other hand is an advanced bio-fuel that can play a key role right away in the decarbonisation of transportation and the progressive reduction of gases that generate the greenhouse effect.
Alongside the energy transition pillar Sapio’s primary industrial activity is the production of industrial gases. Amongst these there are numerous solutions available to industrial and civilian consumers to improve the environmental impact of their processes.
The prosperity of any business activity will be at risk in the short term if it is not supported by a long term plan for the rational use and safeguard of the primary natural resources. Despite the fact that it has always used a “green chemical process” the ambition of the Sapio Group is to gradually achieve the full carbon neutrality of all its operations.
ECONOMIC PERFORMANCE
In order to support the development of customers, employees and the community, the company must have the economic strength to support the projects that it believes in. The possibility of having a correct wage rate for employees, as well as the resources necessary for investments to improve the services and continue expanding, are essential to support the company-people-territory ecosystem.
The economic performance cannot disregard an ethical approach and a company governance designed to guarantee the integrity of the members of the management and the employees. The success of the Group can only be guaranteed with an ethical approach.
FOR SUPPLIERS
Our suppliers are essential for our development. We are constantly looking for a local and sustainable supply chain in order to provide our customers with the best service possible, but at the same time with the intention of supporting the development of our supply chain.
FOR EMPLOYEES
The success of the Group is directly proportional to the daily dedication and talent of our employees. Our employees are at the centre of every company strategy. Their wellbeing is the priority of the Group’s policies. Our attention is aimed not only at attracting, but also at keeping the best talents and our employees.
Continuous training is an essential element of the Group. Every year Sapio draws up specific training plans to fulfil the most disparate requirements. As well as responding to the training needs linked directly to specific jobs, all employees can access cross-functional growth courses to implement soft skills and transversal skills.
